After facing a significant slump during the coronavirus outbreak, the GDP of China grew at a record rate of 18.3% in the first quarter. "The national economy made a good start," National Bureau of Statistics spokeswoman Liu Aihua said. Liu credited "incomparable factors such as the low base figure of last year and increase of working days" for a sharp rise in the country's GDP while adding that it "demonstrated a steady recovery".
