Indians set world record for filing IT returns on the last day- 49,29,121 ITRs filed on Aug 31

Ministry of Finance revealed that taxpayers filed about 5.65 crore income tax returns as on Aug 31. The deadline was extended till Aug 31, and about 49,29,121 ITRs were filed, the highest-ever filed on a single day in the world. There was an increase of 42% from the number of returns filed in the last 5 days to last year's deadline. A total of 5.65 crores ITRs are filed so far; of which 3.61 crores has been verified.
