India is planning to roll-out smart power meters nationwide. The project will cost $21 billion according to a government estimate. The prepaid meters will help in improving the billing and collection and it will be controlled by the state governments. The planned 25 crore prepaid meters across the country will raise enough revenue to cover the costs and it will also save some for the state power distributors.
