Alphabet, Google's parent firm, posted a remarkable 62% increase over the same period last year, well above analysts' expectations. The company's earnings increased by more than $18.5 billion. Much of that gain was fueled by a recovery in Google's main advertising business, which brought in $50.4 billion in revenue, up 69% from the previous year. Ad income from YouTube, the company's video platform, increased by 84% to $7 billion.
