The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) told the Supreme Court in early June that the COVID-19 pandemic had orphaned 1742 children and left 7464 children without a parent owing to coronavirus infection. The national government has agreed to provide free health insurance worth Rs. 5 lakh to orphaned children up to the age of 18 years as a result of the epidemic. Anurag Thakur, a Union minister, made the announcement.
