WHO discovers new 'variant of interest' of Covid-19 in South America, names it Lambda variant

Amid the fears over the rapidly spreading Delta variant of coronavirus, the World Health Organisation has found 'Lambda', a new variant of interest of Covid-19. The new variant has been found in Peru. According to WHO, the variant was first detected in August last year and it accounts for 81% of the total Covid-19 cases reported in the country since April. It is said to be prevalent in over 29 countries across the world.
