Tamil filmmaker J Mahendran has died today at the age of 79 in Chennai. He was not well and was undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospital. The director is well known for introducing realism in Tamil film industry and was the one for giving Rajinikanth his career breakthrough with the release of Mullum Malarum. He started his career as a scriptwriter and made his debut with the 1966 film Naam Moovar.
