Defence ministry wants extra Rs 20,000 cr budget to be war-ready

The Indian defence ministry has requested the Centre to allocate it an "urgent" additional Rs. 20,000 cr for military modernization and day-to-day operating costs. The funds are in addition to the Rs. 2.74 lakh crore defence spending approved under the 2017-18 budget. The Defence Ministry’s requirement came in a time when the country is locked in a serious border conflict with rival neighbour China.
