One of the longest recorded migrations by any land bird will soon be completed. Using a satellite tag, scientists are monitoring a cuckoo that has flown more than 7,500 miles from southern Africa to its breeding ground in Mongolia. The bird has remarkably survived ocean crossings and high winds flying over 16 countries. The satellite-tagged common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) is named Onon after a Mongolian river.
