Amid the rising concerns over the fitness and health of top military officials in China, the former Western Theatre Commander of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has died at 58. General Zhang Xudong, who served as the Western Theatre Commander until June 2021, was heading the Chinese Western Theatre Commander amid the standoff between India and China. He was shifted out of the command just six months after assuming the role.
