The Guinness World Records announced that 'Pepper X' has officially broken the record for the world's hottest chilli pepper. It received an average rating of 26,93,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), breaking the previous record of 1.64 million SHU held by the Carolina Reaper. According to the GWR website, 'Pepper X' was cultivated by Ed Currie, founder of the Puckerbutt Pepper Company in the United States, who also developed the previous record holder, the Carolina Reaper.
