Strong earthquake shakes southern Philippines

A powerful earthquake rocked a nearby island of the Philippines city of Davao on Sunday. The latest tremor to hit the southern part of the country in recent times caused damage to buildings but no tsunami threat was reported. The epicenter of the magnitude 6.8 quake was 61 km southwest of Davao, on the island of Mindanao. There were no initial reports of injuries, but damage and aftershocks could be expected.
