The eerie blue light on Chennai coastline and the reason behind it

On Sunday night, the visitors in Chennai and Kancheepuram beaches witnessed a beautiful blue glow in the waves. The glow was caused by an influx of bio-luminescent micro-organisms that emit light if they are being disturbed physically. This is called Vandal Neer (Murky water). Every year, during this time, the currents in the water come northward and due to its coldness micro-organisms try to shift toward the coastline.
