1,186 blocks categorized for over-exploiting the water withdrawal

The govt has notified the Lok Sabha that 1,186 blocks have been categorized for over-exploiting the water withdrawal. Union minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that under the Jal Jeevan mission, the govt has envisaged ensuring piped water supply to all rural areas by 2024. He said the demand for fresh water has increased as the groundwater level in various parts of the country started decreasing.
