Sweden's prime minister, Stefan Lofven, has resigned a week after being the country's first leader to lose a no-confidence vote. Rather than calling a quick election, the Social Democrat leader asked the country's parliament speaker to start looking for a replacement. A sudden election, he said at a news conference, would be "not what is best for Sweden," citing the Covid-19 epidemic and the next general election.
