Chinese government should have no role in succession process of Dalai Lama: US

In a statement that may irk Beijing and add to the tensions between US and China, the US State Department has said the People's Republic of China should not play a role in the succession process of the new Dalai Lama. State Department Spokesperson Ned Price called the disappearance of the Panchen Lama as a child and attempting to replace him with a PRC government-chosen successor" an outrageous abuse of religious freedom.
