BJP's ambitious Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 that was passed yesterday in Rajya Sabha has met with its first obstacle as the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has approached the Supreme Court against the citizenship bill. The IUML in its plea argues that the proposed law violates the constitution by allowing citizenship based on religion. Opposition argued in the parliament that the bill violates Article 14 of the constitution.
