J&K Panchayat by-polls to happen in March, first election in seven months

The by-election for nearly 13,000 panchayat seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held next month, making it the first major political exercise in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 by the central government. The massive exercise will be conducted in eight phases. The model code of conduct has come into forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 12,000 panchayat seats are still lying vacant after the boycott last year.
