Lt General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff and will take charge on May 1, the defence ministry said on Friday. Lt Gen Raju is currently working as the Director General Military Operations. Raju, a qualified helicopter pilot, oversaw the Army's overall operational readiness in eastern Ladakh.
