PM Modi congratulated Indian-American economist Abhijit Banerjee for winning the Economics Nobel Prize for his contribution to the alleviation of global poverty. Modi tweeted 'He has made notable contributions in the field of poverty alleviation'. He also congratulated Esther Duflo & Michael Kremer. Banerjee was born in 1961 in India. He studied at the University of Calcutta & JNU; later got his Ph.D. in 1988 from Harvard.
