Panchayat elections auctioned in Maharashtra villages

The Election Commission was quick to scrap two gram panchayats in Maharashtra after it got to know about auctions for panchayat seats for the rural body elections that are set to take place on January 15. The two gram panchayats that were scrapped by the election body are Umrane village of Nashik and Kondamali of Nandurbar. Rs 2 crore and Rs 42 lakh were collected from the auctions in the two panchayats.
