SC bans 'triple talaq'

Thousands of activists and Muslim women erupted in joy as the SC banned ‘triple talaq’ the Muslim practice that allows men to instantly divorce their wives. The order comes in response to petitions from seven Muslim women who had been divorced through triple talaq. The judges said the law violated Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India. Instant triple talaq is already banned in 22 Muslim-majority countries.
