Supreme Court rejects proposal to ban begging

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the Supreme Court today issued a notice to the Central and Delhi governments on a plea demanding vaccination and rehabilitation of homeless and beggars. The Supreme Court dismissed a plea to prohibit begging at traffic signals, marketplaces, and public areas in light of the preventive measures, saying, "No one would prefer to beg if it weren't for poverty."
