In a worldwide study prompted by the death of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis in May 2020, UN Human Rights Chief Michelle Bachelet stated that police use of racial profiling and excessive force is established in most of North America, Europe, and Latin America. Bachelet praised US President Joe Biden for issuing an executive order in January to combat racial disparity across the country, calling it a "promising effort."
