President Kais Saied suspended the Tunisian parliament on Sunday while dismissing Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi after a day of protests against the ruling party. The ruling party criticised the move while referring to it as a "coup d'etat". Thousands of Tunisians took to the streets to protest against the Islamist-inspired Ennahdha party. The President said the constitution allows for the parliament's work to be suspended.
