The authorities in Nicaragua have detained Felix Maradiaga and Juan Sebastián Chamorro, two key opposition leaders and possible challengers to Daniel Ortega, months before the elections. The two have been held under a controversial new security law that was passed in December by the Ortega government. Two other opposition leaders were arrested earlier, a move that prompted US to brand Mr. Ortega as a "dictator".
