As the Taliban continues to capture more land in Afghanistan to impose Sharia law, Russia has said the US mission in the Islamic nation has failed. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the White House had tried to paint the drawdown of foreign troops in "the most positive colours", "but everyone understands that the mission failed". He blamed the "hasty withdrawal" by US and Nato for the situation in Afghanistan.
