Venkaiah Naidu becomes 13th Vice President

Former Union Minister and BJP candidate Venkaiah Naidu has become India's 13th vice president, defeating opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi. He secured 516 votes while Gandhi got 244 votes. Although 785 MPs were eligible to vote in today's election, 14 MPs could not vote. Naidu will take oath as new Vice-President of India on August 11. He will be appointed as the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
