Withstanding Russian Protest, Ukraine and US to engage in Black Sea Military Drills

Despite Russian requests to suspend the manoeuvres, Ukraine and the US will begin a military exercise involving more than 30 countries in the Black Sea and southern Ukraine on Monday. Despite Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, the peninsula remains internationally recognised as part of Ukraine. The Russian defence ministry stated that if required, it will intervene to safeguard its own national security.
