Belgian Paralympian Marieke Vervoort is at peace now. She ended her own life through euthanasia at 40 on Tuesday. Vervoort, who bagged a gold and a silver at the London 2012 Paralympics, and silver and bronze at Rio 2016 games, was suffering from an incurable degenerative muscle disease. Euthanasia is legal in Belgium. In 2008 Vervoort had signed papers that would one day give his doctors permission to end her life.
