Marcello Lippi is back as China coach 4 months after the Italian quit, and then fellow Italian Fabio Cannavaro left. Lippi’s return to the top job in Chinese football was widely expected. Lippi, who left the job after China crashed out of the Asian Cup quarter-finals by Iran in late January, has now the challenge to guide the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. China has appeared in the World Cup only once, in 2002.
