Japan has decided to grant asylum to Pyae Lyan Aung, the substitute goalkeeper from Myanmar's national football team who raised an anti-coup salute during a match outside Tokyo. Aung reportedly refused to fly home after the tournament. The goalkeeper raised the three-finger salute, which has been used as a symbol of pro-democracy protestors in Myanmar. Aung refused to fly to Myanmar while adding that his life would be "in danger".
