Indian opener Rohit Sharma, who is on his dream run this year, breaks the record for the most runs scored by an opener in a calendar year. He achieved this feat during the 3rd ODI against West Indies in Cuttack. He breached the record of Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, who scored 2387 runs in 1997. Virender Sehwag, who scored 2355 runs across all formats in 2008, is third-highest run-getter as an opener in a single calendar year.
