Serena Williams was ousted from the Australian Open after losing 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 7-5 to China's Wang Qiang in the third round. The surprise defeat means the 38-year-old tennis sensation’s quest for a 24th Grand Slam singles title continues. It is the American star’s earliest exit at Australian Open since 2006 when she lost at the same stage to Daniela Hantuchova. She hasn’t won a Slam since the 2017 Australian Open.
