West Indies beat New Zealand in the first match of the 2022 Women's World Cup at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. They defended 259, winning the match by just three runs. Although NZ skipper Sophie Devine led from the front, NZ fell short in the final over. Earlier, West Indies opener Hayley Matthews slammed a scintillating ton to power WI's innings.
