IBM's video analytics software that uses traits like age, gender, skin tone and ethnicity for surveillance is worrying privacy advocates about racial profiling after it was reported that the development of the surveillance system involved secretive usage of NYPD's CCTV camera footage. The software was tested at NYC’s counter-terrorism command centre and around 50 CCTVs were used to improve its search functionality.
