Apple, Google, Microsoft & Whatsapp have opposed a proposal by UK spy agency GCHQ to give spies access to end-to-end encrypted communications. They raised concerns about a ghost proposal that would allow them to eavesdrop on encrypted messages. They claimed it would not be any more intrusive than older technologies used by spy agencies to snoop on telephone lines. The open letter aims to explain the pitfalls of the proposal.
