Facebook paid outside contractors to transcribe audio files of the users

According to the people with knowledge of the work, Facebook has paid millions to third party contractors to transcribe audio clips from the users. The contractors were not told how the clips were obtained, and sometimes those clips had conversations and even vulgar contents. Facebook has confirmed that they were transcribing user audio clips but said that they have stopped doing so more than a week ago.
