Reacting to the Australian government's plan to levy payments on news media companies, Google has threatened to suspend its search operations in the country. According to Google, the proposed bill sets a "dangerous precedent". "The principle of unrestricted linking between websites is fundamental to search," said managing director Mel Silva. Mel added that withdrawing services from Australia is the last thing Google want to happen.
