Microsoft to scrap ‘expiring passwords’ policy for Windows 10

Microsoft now believes having passwords expire – a system where the user is forced to change login password every now and then – is not that useful security measure. According to a new draft of security guidance, Microsoft has altered the baseline rules for the next version of Windows 10 (the May 2019 update) to drop recommendations related to “password-expiration policies which require periodic password changes.”
