Sony has quashed rumours of selling or shutting down its smartphone business as it still remains a key strategic asset in selling other products like televisions and gaming equipment. At its peak, Sony used to command a 9% share of the global mobile phone market. However, in 2019, it has ended up being a minor player in the smartphone market, commanding a less than 1% market share, with Europe and Japan its main markets.
