Some trains now operate on a railway line in the UK which is completely powered by a solar farm, a world first. This renewable energy could supply 20% of the Liverpool Merseyrail network and 15% of the Kent, Sussex, and Wessex commuter lines, as well as the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Nottingham, London, and Manchester solar trains. Solar farms to give cheaper power than electricity leading to a reduction in railway costs.
