The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways has informed that India is having a total of 1, 47, 523 bridges and out of these, a total of 37,689, that is about 1 in 4 bridges, are a century old. The report submitted by a committee states that there are many serious issues with this network, like how the Railways Ministry classify these bridges, or what will highly subjective inquiry methods be.
