Black boxes to be installed in trains to record operation and crew performance

In order to record the sequence of events before a train accident, identify operational issues and crew performance, Indian Railways has decided to install the Loco Cab Voice Recording (LCVR) devices in the locomotives. Besides ensuring safety of passengers, this will help investigators to find the cause of the accident. The LCVR, which will be similar to an airplane's black box, is in developmental stage.
