Indian Railways reports zero passenger deaths inn FY 2019; a first in 166 years

For the 1st time in 166 years, Indian Railways reported zero deaths in the FY 2018-19 and is its safest year. This is a big achievement for it on the safety front. In FY 2017-18, it reported 73 accidents across the railway network. Reports hint an average of over 500 accidents occurred annually between 1990-1995 with 2400 deaths & 4300 injured. An average of 110 accidents occurred between 2013-18 with 90 deaths & 1500 injured.
