In light of the strain on India-US relations due to Indo-Russian defence contract and India's new tariffs on electronics, US senators John Cornyn and Mark Warner — co-chairs of the Senate's India caucus have written to PM Narendra Modi to adopt a "light touch" regulatory framework for data localisation. They wrote about draft data protection bill and e-commerce policy framework for firms like Facebook and Amazon.
