Regular monitoring of sewage water with genome sequencing technologies can aid in the detection of problematic genetic alterations in SARS-CoV-infected people. After detecting the Delta variation in Ahmedabad wastewater one month before the first clinical case was announced in Gujarat city, Indian scientists stated they were two weeks ahead of schedule. The National Center for Disease Control is doing a similar survey in Delhi and Nagpur.
