Kangaroo Island used to be a safe haven for wildlife. However, the bushfires have caused havoc and a third of that island has been scorched, according to the NASA satellite images. The devastation can clearly be seen from the images that show the burnt area as brown where it was lush green once. Kangaroo Island contains protected nature reserves and animals including koalas, sea lions and several bird species.
