150 million new smokers added in 9 years, nearly eight million people died in 2019: Study

According to a research, the count of smokers worldwide has reached 1.1 billion with an addition of nearly 150 million smokers in the last nine years. As per the study, nearly eight million people lost their lives due to smoking in 2019. "Young people are particularly vulnerable to addiction, and with high rates of cessation remaining elusive worldwide," Marissa Reitsma, the lead author of the study said.
