3.3 million file for unemployment claims in US, shattering record amid coronavirus outbreak

According to Labor Department's report, 3.28 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week as the coronavirus pandemic shut down many parts of the country. The number of new jobless claims filed by individuals seeking unemployment benefits rose to 3.28 million from 281,000 the previous week. The number is the highest ever reported, beating the previous record of 695,000 claims filed in the week ending 2 October 1982.
